Pha-Balimo 2 Album

Sannere returns to the concept that helped define his artistic identity with Pha-Balimo 2, a new chapter in his Pha-Balimo musical series. The project continues the Lesotho artist’s exploration of Sesotho language, Basotho identity, cultural heritage and contemporary hip-hop.

Sannere is not simply an artist using Sesotho as a language of performance. His music has been examined academically for the way it communicates Basotho cultural knowledge, traditions, beliefs and history. A 2025 research article on his earlier Pha-Balimo project describes his music as a vehicle for cultural transmission and identifies themes including balimo, circular time, ancestry, proverbs, clan names, myths and dreams.

That background makes Pha-Balimo 2 particularly interesting. Rather than treating the title as simply a sequel, the project can be understood as another stage in Sannere’s ongoing conversation about what it means to be Basotho.
