What makes Some Strings Attached particularly interesting is that it is not simply another heartbreak album. Rowlene has explained that the “strings” extend beyond romantic relationships. They include friendships she thought would last forever, expectations about her career and even an older version of herself that she eventually had to leave behind.

That broader interpretation gives the album considerably more emotional depth.

Instead of asking only, “Why did this relationship end?”, Rowlene appears to be asking a much bigger question:

“What parts of my old life am I still attached to, and who am I becoming after letting them go?”
